The $1,000 scholarship helps students impacted by leukemia achieve their academic dreams.

ATLANTA, GA, November 08, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — John Foy & Associates wants to give every young person impacted by leukemia the opportunity to continue pursuing their long-term goals without their diagnosis holding them back. That desire saw the creation of the John Foy “Strong Arm” Leukemia Scholarship, worth $1,000 in financial support.

This year, John Foy & Associates wants to award its financial support to Jeremiah Hughes at Liberty University. Hughes is a junior studying data analytics with plans to graduate in May 2025. His journey to overcome leukemia and go to college was not an easy one, but John Foy & Associates admires his tireless determination.

Hughes faced an acute lymphoblastic leukemia diagnosis when he was a high school student. While his family, friends, classmates, and medical staff worked to accommodate his needs, the reality of that diagnosis proved difficult to ignore.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia tends to progress more rapidly than non-acute variations. There was no way, Hughes knew, that his life would ever be the same as it was before his diagnosis.

That said, Hughes and his community came together to get him the care that he needed. He began attending college as a part-time student shortly after his graduation and plans to graduate within four years.

That said, Hughes’ healthcare journey didn’t end when he went into remission. Today, he has to contend with avascular necrosis as a result of taking essential steroids while in chemotherapy. Avascular necrosis weakens a person’s joints, usually impacting only a few. Hughes is unique in that his avascular necrosis has impacted nearly half of his joints.

Hughes has, as of 2023, had his right shoulder replaced once and his left shoulder replaced three times. He had his right hip replaced in July 2023.

Yet even in the face of all of these medical challenges, Hughes takes an honest and determined look at the future. He continues to pursue an education in his field of interest and refuses to let himself fall behind. John Foy & Associates applauds that dedication.

The team hopes that the support of the John Foy “Strong Arm” Leukemia Scholarship will make Hughes’ junior year at Liberty University all the simpler. The firm encourages future applicants to follow in Hughes’ footsteps when the John Foy “Strong Arm” Leukemia Scholarship starts accepting applications for the 2024/2025 scholarship.
