The number of people dying on southern Nevada roads is on the rise. In almost every category, traffic fatalities are up compared to the same time last year.
The one positive trend is in Metro’s jurisdiction, where motorcycle deaths went down from 12 last year to 10 so far this year.
“At the end of 2014 and beginning of 2015, we were averaging 10 pedestrian deaths a month,” said Erin Breen, director of UNLV’s Vulnerable Road Users project.
For all of Clark County, the number of fatal accidents are up. Last year there were 70 and this year there have been 89.
The number of resulting deaths are also up from 74 to 98.
Breen says the number of bicyclists killed in southern Nevada went from none to seven.
